Post-Event Workshops – Education

Workshop on Accreditation of Engineering Degree Programmes

Date: 15 November 2018
Venue: Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD)

Engineering education is experiencing unprecedented transformation in producing graduates with new skills and abilities to meet the demands of the 21st century. For example, trans-domain and multidisciplinary knowledge and collaboration are an integral part of the transformation. Digital economy is reshaping the transformation and new skills.

In this one-day workshop, the participants are expected to learn:
• How engineering education can be designed and transformed to meet the outcome-based assessment and accreditation based on Washington Accord’s criteria and how to benchmark with ABET’s approach and meet the requirements for professional engineer assessment
• How to prepare engineering degree programs for outcome-based accreditation
• Difficulties and challenges faced on soliciting and analysing outcome-based data
• Lessons-learnt, new ideas and ways to collate and compile accreditation data and statistics
• Opportunities in formulating standards and expectations for accreditation under general engineering degree programs

A demonstration of a recently concluded accreditation exercise on three multidisciplinary engineering degree programs (Bachelor in Engineering (Engineering Product Development), Bachelor in Engineering (Engineering System and Design) and Bachelor in Engineering (Information System Technology and Design) at Singapore University of Technology and Design by the Engineering Accreditation Board of IES will be carried out.

Workshop on Assessment of Learning Outcomes

Date: 16 November 2018
Venue: Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT)

The foundation of Outcome-Based Education and Outcome-Based Accreditation is the system of effective and authentic assessment of the student learning outcomes. Globally, the set of 12 Washington Accord Graduate Attributes generally forms the baseline of learning outcomes for accreditation of engineering programs.

This one-day workshop will deliver the essential tools and guidance that participants will need to implement a successful assessment process in the context of outcome-based education in engineering. It provides an overview on outcome-based education and outcome-based accreditation, and focuses on designing program education objective, making student learning outcomes measurable, creating rubrics, and analysing assessment data. It is designed to give the key insights to develop successful assessment plan in an engineering education program.

The key topics are:
• Outcome-based education and outcome-based accreditation
• Outcomes assessment methods
• Learning outcomes and assessment rubrics in engineering education
• Using assessment outcomes to improve course and curriculum design
